It's nearly the weekend.....

It is nearly the weekend and for once.... yes doesn't happen very often.  So we as a family are going to make the most of it.

Tonight some of my favourte ladies are coming over for drinks... Heather and Bernie cannot wait to catch up tonight.

Then Saturday and Sunday we actually do not have any plans - but saying this it always changes without notice.

A weekend not to be repeated

Well if I couldn't think that anything could get worse after Friday night's rock through the window incident - it did!!

After cleaning up the loungeroom removing glass shards and vacuuming and vacuuming and vacuuming we finally went shopping. I was tired from the sleepless night and working in Saturday morning but was feeling sickly in the stomach. Walking around the supermarket I started dry reaching and to be honest had to get out of the shop as I couldn't face any more shopping. Needless to say only half the shopping got done, the kids went into stunned silence and Noel was left to get things organised including me who was getting worse by the second.

Before going any further I need to say I am the World's WORST patient as I just don't like being sick for one minute. I refuse to let myself relax unless I have no choice! I try and turn into superwoman so that I continue with what's needed to be done so nobody else has to do it. BUT this time my superhero costume just didn't want to fit (I think it's being hanging out with the skinny clothes in my cupboard) and what ever was making me sick hit me like a tonne of bricks very quickly! Within the hour I was in bed, armed with a bucket, towel and curious onlookers (Oliver and Alex) who I don't think have ever seen my head spin around and me turn into the devil! I spent all night like this finally drifted off to sleep in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sunday was another wasted day, with me walking around like a zombie all weak and weary from an eventful night! My stomach at least was better but was not in the mood for bacon and eggs that's for sure!! In fact a couple of mouthfuls of water was the most it could handle for a few hours. As the day went on I did start to feel much better but was not about to start partying hard.

Noel and I decided to take the kids to the cinema as we all needed to get out of the house (but do something relaxing of course). We went and seen A Christmas Carol. We went to VMax, which is the larger screen at Village Cinema's and it was also in 3D. It was a brilliant movie, although Alex got scared as did several other kids in the cinema. One boy little boy was crying "I don't want to watch this anymore" at the top of his lungs.. thankfully his mother decided to remove the both of them from the cinema. At one point, Alex looked at me and said "this is going to give me nightmares" but then she fell asleep about 2/3rds of the way through the movie but she was still very tired from her school camp, which she enjoyed thoroughly!

Today back to routine, work and school and hopefully next weekend will be a little more upbeat and enjoyable as we are off to Bright for a little holiday before the silly season begins.

It's gonna be a hot one..... the week that is.

Well after a huge and hot weekend here in Melbourne we now face the prospect of a whole week with temperatures in the high 20's and into the 30's on some days.

Melbourne's weather forecast looks like this....

Monday ~ 34 deg C
Tuesday ~ 32 deg C
Wednesday ~ 27 deg C
Thursday ~ 29 deg C
Friday ~ 31 deg C
Saturday ~ 35 deg C
Sunday ~ 34 deg C

As you can imagine we are approaching fire season here, and quite a lot of Victoria are paniced by last summer's fires especially on Black Saturday ~ a day a lot of us remember but would prefer to forget. The loss of lives, property, belongings, livestock and even pets is still so much in the forefront of everyone's memories that we are all reading and talking about this year's strategies for fighting and controlling any fires that will happen.

On a happier note "Baby Murray" is due to be born on Friday .... and I think the whole Murray family is excited and eagerly awaiting his or her arrival. I don't envy Vicky being pregnant in this heat though... poor thing!

Menu Plan Monday

I cannot believe that it's Monday again and we are facing another week of routine. The weekend came and went so fast it is actually ridiculous and the fact that Christmas is only 67 days away!!! OMG I need to pull my finger out and get organised.

Saturday night I finally found the recipe for a low fat hollandaise that I have been trying to find for about 2 years now.... funny how you get something in your head and it stays there! Needless to say I had to experiement with it on Saturday night!! For dinner we had a nice peice of steak with some prawns, normally listed on Australian menu's as "Surf and Turf " plus a serve of the hollandaise on the side... this was the start of the food fest!!

Lunch on Sunday was the grand finale. We took mam and dad to the Lynbrook Hotel. A new hotel which was somewhat local. It has only been open for just over 2 months and came highly recommended to us. Although it was a normal hotel with pokies and a sports bar as well as accommodation, the bistro had a different appeal as the only food served was by way of an International Buffet. No A La Carte Menu to be found. Overall opinion - magnificent and if you live local you should definitley give it a try. Price wise it was perfect and the food well ~ let's just say we were all very full when we left and happy!

Needless to say weigh in tonight should be interesting!! LOL!!

So with it being Monday that brings us to menu planning for the week.....

Sat ~ Surf and Turf, low fat Hollandiase
Sun ~ Lynbrook Hotel (although for lunch)
Mon ~ Pastitsio and salad
Tue ~ Steak with Blue Cheese Sauce
Thu ~ Chicken Jelfrezi with steamed rice
Fri ~ Grilled Rockling with Asian Slaw

As usual more great menu ideas can be found at Menu Plan Monday on I'm An Organising Junkie and all recipes (in time) can be found over a A Dash Of Flavour.... Just click on the links for each meal when they appear or just click here.

Happy cooking.....

The weekend has suddenly become busy....

The weekend has suddenly become busy.... but I really don't mind at all....

Working until 12 takes a huge chunk out of Saturday but it's extra spending money and more time Noel can spend with the children by himself. He has been working long hours this last few weeks and has hardly spent any time with them, seeing them just before dinner and then they go off to bed. So Saturday mornings are his "quality" time.

It is a beautiful day here in Melbourne, the sun is shining and the wind calm.

This afternoon we are off to get the family portrait done. This should be interesting (especially seeing what Alex will decide to wear) but I am looking forward to it. The portrait itself will be framed and only costs $10 with all profits going back to the school. The trick is to walk away with the portrait only not the whole package that these companies put together so you are tempted to spend extra money. We did this a few years ago and I ended up purchasing the whole package for about $200... but they were nice photos.

We are all getting a little excited as I have confirmed a get together with Jamie and the boys for tomorrow. They are coming to our place for lunch and it will be great to see them again. It's been a few weeks but as much as I would love to see them everytime they are with Jamie, it is his time and he needs to enjoy all the time that he gets. While they are visiting, Jamie is actually painting the laundry ceiling for us as the paint is flaking from the heat of the dryer. Cost for painting the laundry ceiling is free lunch.... lol!!

So before we know it the weekend will be over but it will be enjoyed......

TGIF!! The weekend is here...

I am looking forward to this weekend... good weather has been forecast for the whole weekend so hopefully we can venture outside at some stage.

Not quite sure what we are planning although it must and will incorporate cleaning at some stage, as boring as that sounds ~ it does need to get done.

Getting our family portrait (photo) taken Saturday afternoon so that should be good. It wasn't a planned event, actually a fundraiser through the school. We had it done many years ago so an updated version will be great.

Better fly the weekend has started.......
